About Bob Cooper

Bob graduated from the University of Denver College of Law in 1983 and has been practicing law for more than thirty-seven years. He limited his practice to family law over twenty-five years ago and has handled thousands of cases. Sometimes the facts of cases seemed made up and gave light to the expression that the ‘truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.’ Over the years Bob has seen patterns in cases and has gained a great sense of how a case will be decided if the parties ended up in Court.

One common factor that greatly impacts divorces is emotion. Emotion is often the fuel for disputes. Because Bob was dealing with emotional issues in cases, he thought it would be very helpful if he understood emotional issues better. So, he returned to school after practicing family law for twenty plus years and received a Masters Degree in Psychology/Counseling from Regis University in 2010. He worked full-time as a divorce lawyer and was a part-time student. After graduating from Regis, Bob worked part-time as an unlicensed Psychotherapist for two years. The Psychology/Counseling degree gave him great insight into his cases and allowed him to better understand his client’s needs and the dynamics of his cases.

Family law disputes come in many different sizes and shapes. Some couples have been married a long period of time, and others a short period of time.  Some couples have children, and some are childless. Some have a lot of money and assets, and other have nothing but debt. Some couples are relatively healthy, both physically and emotionally, and others have serious health problems, or emotional issues. But no matter the size and shape of a case, each case gets resolved in the end. Bob has seen people spend small fortunes litigating issues and having Judges decide outcomes. But he has always preferred settlement. With mediation, a party can know and accept the outcome of their cases, avoid the emotional toll that litigation takes, and save thousands of dollars of legal expenses. As a mediator, Bob works hard helping people reach agreements.

Bob is extremely detail oriented, very strategic and works hard to settle cases. He uses his understanding of how the law and how judges will look at issues to move cases forward. He brings a wealth of experience and dedication to each case he mediates.
